Optyl is a trademark registered by Safilo.

The product of a special combination of substances, it is a thermosetting plastic material with exceptional qualities. In addition to being about 20% lighter than acetate and other materials, it is perfectly adaptable to the wearer's face, extremely comfortable and durable. It is also hypoallergenic since it contains no plasticisers and is treated with a special surface coating which makes it resistant to sweat and cosmetics.

As a special feature  the Optyl has a peculiar “memory-effect”. When it is heated at 80-120°C, this material can be fitted to the face’s anatomy and the following cooling allows the modified shape to become permanent. When heated up again to the “memory temperature” it returns to its original shape. In this way the original glass shape is preserved in any situation.

Optyl guarantees an excellent surface finishing and a better resistance to the mechanical forces than other normal thermosetting materials (acetate, propionate, etc…)

It is made by the way of a “vacuum cast” technology that permits a three-dimensional design with unique, bright and fine sand colour effects. These characteristics make Optyl an unique and innovative product.
