Special olympics
“Special Olympics” is a no-profit international organization involved in helping people with mental disability to keep fit and become productive and respected members of society, through training and sport competition.
The extraordinary event of the World Olympic Games takes place for the first time in China, thanks to the will of the National Government, engaged in fostering the opening of the nation towards a global international culture in the name of equality and human dignity.
Carrera is happy to support the World Summer Games “Special Olympics 2007” – that take place in Shanghai – as global supplier and sponsor of the eye-screening program “Special Olympics – Lions Club International Opening Eyes ®”. Shanghai gives hospitality for 11 days to 7,500 athletes with mental disabilities coming from more than 160 countries to compete in 25 different Olympic disciplines and exhibition sports.
Thanks to the engagement of Carrera, during the first six months of 2007 more than 5,300 athletes of Special Olympics receive frames and sport eyewear through “Opening Eyes”, while more than 4,300 athletes receive sunglasses to protect themselves from harmful ultraviolet rays. Carrera's support to “Opening Eyes” is not limited to the contribution of millions of dollars a year in ophthalmic products: Carrera's staff all around the world offers its time and experience during the games organized by “Special Olympics”.
